Stamp cards

Updated 31 August 2026

A stamp card counts visits or items instead of money: buy nine, the tenth is free. It is the easiest loyalty program to explain, the easiest for a customer to want, and the right choice for any business that sells one thing at roughly one price.

Why stamps beat points for frequent, cheap purchases

A coffee costs a few hundred dram. A points program on that basket credits an amount so small that it takes months to become anything, and nobody watches a balance that moves that slowly.

A stamp card moves visibly every single visit. Seven of ten filled is a fact the customer holds in their head, and the last three visits of a card are the most reliable repeat business a small shop can buy.

How many stamps

Between six and ten. Fewer than six and the free item costs too much relative to what earned it; more than ten and the goal is too far away to change behaviour, and cards get abandoned half full.

The arithmetic is simple: a card of ten gives away one item in ten, which is a ten percent discount paid only to people who came ten times. That is a far better trade than ten percent off for everybody.

What paper cards lose

Paper punch cards are lost, forgotten, washed, and copied. A determined customer can fake a stamp with any similar pen, and a business has no idea how many cards are half full in the city because nothing is recorded anywhere.

The bigger loss is silent: the business never learns who its regulars are. A stack of stamped card stubs at the end of the month tells you a number and nothing else.

Digital stamp cards on One Bonus

A stamp on One Bonus is recorded against the customer, not against a piece of card. It cannot be lost, cannot be forged, and it survives a new phone. The business sees how many cards are open, how many completed, and who is one stamp away from a free item.

A completed card issues the reward automatically, and the reward is consumed once at the till — so the free item is genuinely free to the customer and genuinely recorded for the business.

Common questions

How many stamps should a loyalty card have?

Six to ten. A card of ten gives away one item in ten — effectively a ten percent discount paid only to customers who visited ten times. Below six the free item is too expensive; above ten people give up before finishing.

Can a digital stamp card be shared or faked?

No. The stamp is recorded against the customer’s account, and the reward at the end is consumed once at the till. There is nothing physical to copy and no pen that can add a stamp.

What happens to a half-finished stamp card?

It stays where it is, on the customer’s account, until it is completed. The business can also see how many cards are part-finished, which is the clearest measure there is of how many people intend to come back.
